Fragrant and just sweet enough, the classic Mulled wine is the ultimate cozy cocktail. It’s easy to make and great for serving a crowd. The cozy notes of cinnamon, citrus, and vanilla mixed with a bold red wine make it perfect for the Holiday season. This mulled wine will warm your body, and the company you share it with will warm your heart.

One of the best parts about making this Mulled Wine recipe is the warm, intoxicating fragrance that will fill your home. Mulled wine is wine that is heated and infused with mulled spices. Cozy up by the fire or light some candles and embrace the coziness!

Mulled Wine Recipe

To make Mulled Wine (six servings), you will need:

  • a bottle of red wine such as Merlot, Zinfandel or Garnacha
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • An orange peel cut into strips
  • A lemon peel cut into strings
  • 1 cup ruby port
  • 1 cup Brandy

How to Make Mulled Wine

In a saucepan (one that isn’t aluminum), add the wine, brown sugar, cloves, cinnamon, orange peel, and lemon peel and bring to a simmer while stirring regularly. Simmer for 10 minutes then stir in brandy and the port just long enough for it to heat through. Remove from the heat and serve in mugs.

What Type of Pot to Use

It is important to Make your Mulled wine in a saucepan that isn’t aluminum. A dutch oven or stainless steel pot works well. You can keep it warm in a slow cooker on the “warm” setting.

How to Serve

Serve your Mulled Wine immediately while it’s warm in mugs using a ladle. Garnish with a slice of orange.

Ingredients

  • 750 ml red wine
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 orange peel peeled into strips
  • 1 lemon peel peeled into strips
  • 1 cup ruby port
  • 1 cup brandy

Instructions

  • In a saucepan (read what type of pot to use in our notes in the post) bring the red wine, brown sugar, cloves, cinnamon, orange peel, and lemon peel to a simmer stirring regularly.
  • Simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Stir in the brandy and the port just long enough for it to heat through.
  • Remove from the heat and serve in mugs.
