Just as fun to say as it is the drink, the Canchanchara is a white rum drink sweetened with honey syrup and infused with fresh limes. The outcome? A refreshing and light cocktail perfect for quenching your thirst!

Originating in Cuba and said to be one of the oldest known Cuban cocktails, the Canchanchara has withstood the test of time. The perfect balance of sweet, tart, and fizzy, the Canchanchara is perfect for cooling off on a warm day or celebrating!

Canchanchara Cocktail Recipe

The ingredients needed to make one Canchanchara are:

  • 2 ounces Aguardiente or White Rum
  • 1/2 ounce Lime Juice (fresh is best if available)
  • 1/2 ounce Honey or 1/2 ounce Honey Syrup (we recommend the honey syrup)
  • 1 1/2 ounces water or club soda

If using honey syrup, club soda is a great way to top the cocktail and add some bubbles. If using plain honey, we recommend using water to top the finished drink.

How to Make a Canchanchara Cocktail

We think using Honey Syrup is the best way to make and enjoy a Canchanchara. It is easy to make and can be stored to be used for many other cocktails (like the Bees Knees Cocktail and Gold Rush Cocktail). If you are not using honey syrup for this recipe, combine your honey and water prior to mixing the cocktail. Combine your honey syrup (or honey and water), lime juice, and white rum in a cocktail shaker with ice. Give it a good shake until ingredients are well chilled. Strain into an ice-filled glass and top with a splash of club soda or water.

How to Serve

Serve your Canchanchara in a glass tumbler with lots of ice immediately once prepared. Garnish with a lime wedge and enjoy!
