We combine the classic White Sangria with a Strawberry Margarita to create the ultimate strawberry margarita sangria. In this recipe, we took the makings of a margarita and added in some homemade strawberry syrup and white wine to make a truly special sangria.

Strawberry Margarita Sangria Ingredients

This drink combines homemade strawberry syrup and a margarita sangria for a delicious pitcher of sangria. To make both parts of this yummy drink you will need:

  • Fresh and frozen strawberries: Used to make the strawberry syrup and garnish the finished drink.
  • Sugar: Combines with the strawberries to make the syrup.
  • Triple sec: An orange liqueur commonly found in margaritas. A higher-end option like Cointreau would also work in this recipe.
  • Tequila: Anytime a recipe calls for tequila, be sure to use a bottle that is labeled 100% agave for the best flavor. The quality of the tequila isn’t as important for this recipe due to the other ingredients masking some of its flavor. Use a mid-level tequila that you enjoy the flavor of.
  • Lime juice: Freshly squeezed is always best for cocktails.
  • A bottle of chilled white wine: See our recommendation for the best wine for sangria below.

How to Make Strawberry Margarita Sangria

Here is a brief overview of how this white sangria recipe comes together. For the full recipe including all measurements, see the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

  • Make your strawberry syrup. Read more on this below. This can made ahead of time to save time.
  • Combine ingredients in a pitcher. Combine the triple sec, tequila, lime juice, cooled strawberry syrup, and white wine in a large pitcher. Stir to combine.
  • Garnish and serve. Add the sliced strawberries and enjoy!

Homemade Strawberry Syrup

This homemade strawberry syrup can be made with fresh or frozen strawberries in advance to save time or keep on hand anytime a craving for strawberry margarita sangria strikes. It is also delicious in cocktails in place of simple syrup, like a Mojito or Vodka Lemonade, or on top of pancakes. For the full strawberry syrup recipe including all measurements, see the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

  • Combine strawberries, water, and sugar in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
  • Transfer to a blender and blend until smooth.
  • Strain through a mesh strainer and allow it to cool completely before using. Store in a glass jar or airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one month.

Best Wine For Sangria

This sangria uses a bottle of white wine. Because of the other ingredients, I recommend using a dryer white wine such as Pino Grigio or Riesling. While the strawberries provide a lot of natural sweetness, using a sweet white wine such as Moscato can make the drink even sweeter.

Adjusting the Sweetness of Sangria

Typically sangria sits overnight to let all the flavors combine. In this recipe, we are serving it right away so that you can enjoy the sweet, fizzy goodness. If you wanted to make it more like the classic, you could combine the strawberry syrup, tequila, and fruit overnight and then add in the wine right at the last minute.

While the strawberries provide a lot of natural sweetness, you can adjust the sweetness of the sangria by the wine you choose. I share more on white wines for sangria above. If after mixing the ingredients together you find that it isn’t as sweet as you’d like, you can add some simple syrup.

How to Make Simple Syrup

Tips and Tricks

  • Use chilled ingredients. Using cold ingredients (especially the wine) will keep your sangria cold without having to add ice which can dilute it.
  • Make it just before serving. Some sangria recipes are best when they sit overnight for the ingredients and flavors to combine. This recipe is best when it is enjoyed fresh. Since it is as simple as combining all ingredients in a pitcher, it comes together quickly.
  • Use all frozen strawberries. If fresh strawberries aren’t available, you can use all frozen. Frozen strawberries can help keep the sangria cold without diluting it like ice would. Fresh strawberries make a more appealing garnish if you prefer to add one to each glass like in the photos.

Serving

This strawberry sangria can be made in your favorite pitcher and served in stemless wine glasses or glass tumblers. You can even rim the glasses with salt or sugar like a regular margarita, and garnish each glass with a fresh strawberry. Serve while chilled and store any leftovers in the refrigerator.
