What is a Greyhound Drink

The first recipe of the Greyhound Cocktail appeared in 1930 in a cocktail book printed by the legendary London hotel, The Savoy. It has been a classic ever since! While gin was originally the preferred spirit in the mixed drink, as vodka became more popular in the US after World War II, it swiftly succeeded the gin.

Best Vodka for Cocktails

The nice thing about making vodka cocktails is that there are good vodkas at every price point. The important thing is to use a vodka that you like the taste of. Kirkland’s brand from Costco is a great affordable option that often wins in blind taste tests. Tito’s is our go-to for a middle-shelf vodka.

How to Serve

The Greyhound drink is served in a tumbler or tall glass with a large ice cube. With only two ingredients, the Greyhound cocktail is a great candidate to mix things up and experiment. Try salting the rim to create a Salty Dog or adding a grapefruit wedge as a garnish!

We like to double or triple the recipe in a bigger pitcher so there is enough to go around.
