Add this seasonal twist on a classic cocktail to your fall bucket list with the marriage of two fall favorites: apple and caramel. This recipe uses apple brandy instead of the traditional bourbon found in the old fashioned, plus the addition of a few other ingredients that make this cocktail smooth and delicious. The perfect blend of caramel and apple flavors, this will become a staple during the crisp fall days and beyond.

Apple Caramel Old Fashioned Ingredients

Just five ingredients are needed for this fall old fashioned. For ingredient measurements, scroll down to the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

  • Angostura bitters: This is the most common kind of bitters, with notes of clove and cinnamon. See more on bitters below.
  • Lemon lime soda: Like 7Up or Sprite, soda will add a refreshing fizz to your cocktail.
  • Apple brandy: Calvados Apple Brandy is a popular brand and would be delicious in this fall drink.
  • Caramel sauce: Use store-bought or make your own, the sweat and gooey sauce sets this cocktail apart.
  • Apple slice: Thin slices are ideal for easy muddling and garnish.

What are Bitters

Bitters are a staple of any old fashioned. The cocktail spirit is infused with fruit, roots, and herbs. Just a few dashes go a long way to add flavor in cocktails, so this is a great ingredient to keep on your bar cart. Another classic cocktail with bitters is the timeless Manhattan Drink Recipe.
